| DOT HACK LIMINALITY was distributed through four PS2 games as a pack in (one episode for each game). Having not played the games, I was very confused by this. Still, from what I could make of it, it is simlar to DOT HACK SIGN.

| Hmmm... This show is nothing without .hack//SIGN. Were it not an.. err.. sequel to it, it would've served little purpose as a stand alone piece. Actually, the only reason why I've liked this show was that I could learn more about .hack world and get some clues what was going on in SIGN. Unfortunately, even those clues are not of huge importance. Either way, watch this show only if you've liked .hack//SIGN and if you are fascinated by its mysteries. Otherwise, this show is worthless.

| While I understand Hack Liminality is supposed to answer a lot of questions to hack sign and the games, it’s really not an excuse for following in Sign’s footsteps and becoming a lacklustre series.

| The animation was average becuase the character wasn't draw as good as other animations i seen. It looked more like a 90's style animation.
The sound was alright. HOwever, i am not sure if it would of been bettern in japanese, since i got the game in English the OVA were in English, so it didn't felt like an japanese anime to be because the voices didn't really match the characters.
The story was pretty good explaining the beginning of "The World" and what causes the players to go on a coma. However, i thought it will have more detail, but it didn't. Therefore, it open another type of questions regarding the game. However, i haven't finish playing the game so i am not sure how the ending is. When i finish the four sequals i will update the info and let you guys know how it is.
Character pretty well develop. They are all trying to solve the issue with the players going in coma. They are also pretty good detectives in away.
The value of the anime is a little bit above average. It does help explain the other two .//hack sign anime. I enjoyed it but i think the ending didn't explain much.

| This anime was horribly boring to me. I watched it after watching .hack//sign. I didn't like SIGN, and thought this would be better, but it wasn't at all. The only thing carried over between the two is the basic concept of The World.
The animation was good, probably the best part. But I don't care much about animation.
The sound wasn't bad, thus making it good. I don't notice sound much when watching animes.
The story was bland. Basically it's the real world version of .hack//SIGN. No fun game experiences.
The characters were empty and meaningless. Probably the worst character development I've seen.
If you like anime for the animation, you'll like this anime. Or, maybe if you love the .hack series, but I'm not to fond of this anime. However, have an open mind and try it for yourself.

| You either love this anime or you hate it. I hated it.
I watched hack//sign before and although liminality was semi-interesting , i feel a lot of it was just a bunch of random cyber-blab. if you loved hack//sign, i'd give this a shot.
if you hated it, you wouldn't appreciate this liminality at all, and if u haven't seen sign, this would be pretty pointless
the only really impressive part of this was the animation. i liked the animation despite the fact that some character designs are a bit too simple during the show, although the openings are pretty. i also kind of appreciated that it tried to go deeper from something that was totally confusing, and didn't make sense, and actually make some sense out of it
conclusiON: this is for the curious mind of hack//sign

| I'm kinda biased toward Liminality. I've always liked Hack, in all three ways: Anime, Video game, and TCG. Liminality answered a lot of questions that were left unanswered in the anime and games. Plus plenty of stuff from Liminality showed up in the TCG, which I used to play a great deal of. You only really have to watch it if you like Hack, and have questions from the anime or games. The story won't make too much sense otherwise.......

| The least memorable anime of the hack series in my opinion. While the animation is much more vibrant for being an OAV and the music from Sign is still here, Liminality is more plot-driven than character-driven like Sign and Legend of the Twilight. The series just doesn't interest me as much as Sign since it takes place almost entirely in the real world making the anime almost dull. If you are heavily into the .hack series, then be my guest and watch this anime because others who watch this will be lost if they haven't watched .hack//SIGN or played the video games on the Playstation 2.

| Much more story-heavy than the other .hack series. The animation and sound quality were nothing special, and as with the other .hack series, the music not syncing with the scene detracts from the show. While I personally did not much care for the characters or the story, there was a lot of character and plot development throughout the series (maybe I did not like it because there was too much). Has very little re-watch value. Not particularly recommended

| The follow up to hack sign. This, in my opinion was far better than the series. The first episode had me captivated. This is in the typical style of Bee Train just like hack sign, but unlike hack sign, significant events actually started happening from the word go. The music succeeded to be better than noir or hack sign. They seem to be getting the hang of the music production more and more now heh. Unfortunately, none of the 3 follow up episodes quite matched the calibur of the first. In episode 2, the anime decended back to the usual faffing about that was so common in the hack sign series. 3rd and 4th episodes got better though, but not as good as the first. It goes some way towards explaining the events in hack sign, but not very much. Either the translators are at fault, or Bee Train needs better explanations, cos I had such a tough time figuring out the explanations. I'm puzzled over statements like exchanging data to produce the ultimate AI... what? Why do you need to exchange it? Exchange it with who/what?? I thought you needed to program an AI.
By the end of it I'm still fairly clueless about what they did. Basically, the conclusion was just somelike "Aha! I've got it!!" I don't understand: what exactly what they doing? How did they do it? All I know is the were doing some hacking on the computer, but they didn't tell me what the root of the problem was or how they solved it. How can you make a sci-fi without explanations?!
Anyways, I quite enjoyed it, I'm just slightly puzzled still at then end of it. Wish they'd put in a more detailed explanation. Again, like hack sign, this anime's ratings is boosted highly by the animation/sound quality, but this one has more substance underneath.

OH MY GODDDDDDDDDD!!!! I CAN'T BELIVE I'VE WATCHED AS MUCH AS I DID.THOSE ARE 90 MINUTES OF MY LIFE I CAN NEVER GET BACK! NEVER!!!! ;____;
Watched only 3\4 of it, simply because there was a danger of killing myself if I watch any more of this unbelievable bore fest. OMG, I had nightmares that's so boring. I couldn't think that there could be anything so boring, everything here is just talk talk talk, nothing else. you can go crazy. What broke me was episode 3: 30 minutes of non stop talking with changing background arts, 2 people talking about how they're gonna talk to someone else, then someone gets a phone call "-who was it? -it was ___! -oh, really? well..." and more talking. then they go somewhere else and guess what? they talk some more, and at the end - the cliffhanger: they're gonna... TALK TO SOMEONE!
STOP!! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! ;_____________; MAKE THE MADNESS STOP!!!
The thing is, I kinda liked hack sign, so what's so different? sign too had alooot of endless talking, but I ended up liking it. maybe the fact that here there were 4 episodes, so it's more like a compressed boredom, as at sign it was more spread out (though if you read my review for sign you know I almost killed my self out of boredom too at first..)...ugh...just...don't watch it...DON'T PUT YOURSELVES THROUGH THE MADNESS!!!

| I enjoyed this because it's essentially the same as .hack//SIGN, which occurs entirely within the game itself, while .hack//Liminality deals with what's going on in the real world. It's also a lot more action-packed than the TV series, so you won't have to worry about falling asleep.

| What was this all about huh? I heard this was given in the .hack games, but if you never seen the anime before, this will be as confusing as hell, even I, who have seen all the other .hacks found it at times hard to follow what was said and done.
The animes is rather dull at points, but it does have it’s nice parts, generally though, normal and nothing special. There wasn’t much good use of sound, the scores weren’t that helpful with the story, though the special effect may have been cool, that alone didn’t hold up this anime.
As for the characters I hated them quite a bit, adults – okay, but they acted rather stiff I think, I didn’t feel much for them, which ultimately led me to not care for them and as a result, this whole OVA series.
Sorry but I didn’t enjoy this, in fact I didn’t enjoy very much any of the .hack series, which I have to admit, affected the rating of this significantly, so if you ARE a .hack fan, this is a must for your collection and knowledge, if you didn’t like the other .hacks or though they were “okay, then you should leave this one and move on to another anime.

| The closest .hack has come to being good. If only it was longer, it would have been.
Liminality takes place sometime between Sign and Twilight. The novel twist is rather than characters playing out the story in 'The World' in an online format, 'The World' infiltrates reality. Kind of. Etertain the idea that an event very similar to what happened in Sign happened again - except that there were also consequences affect reality. Through the death-defying experiences of Mai and Kasumi, Liminality provides a way to get closer to the truth of the .hack scenario.
At least that was the intention. And a fairly decent attempt was made. But as usual, a certain studio managed - as it always does - to hinder what was potentially a good OVA series and leave it in a mediocre state. That studio is none other than Bee Train. Hearing that name is enough to send one cringing or running for the hills. They're not the worst mob, but they just never seem to get it through their heads that their approached to series don't work. So they mucked it up once more. And this time, I'm not in the mood for forgiving them.
The ingredients are a good mix. The animation has a sultry, enigmatic feel that provides an intriguing viewing atmosphere. The subtle electronic episode music is decent enough. And for once, there is a solid story and some good characters presenting it. Mai and Kasumi's struggle to escape from a manic nightmare and walk away in one piece is a solid one. The concept of 'The World' altering reality - now that's far more interesting than what Sign offered. A cast of balanced characters that have some backbone is far better that the emo-fest that hindered Sign. But there's just one problem. As gripping as the struggle to live is - what exactly happened? That is never made clear. Liminality offers to bridge the gap to 'The World'. Instead it seems to offer a mere glimpse of a slightly ajar door then shuts it. If Liminality made a true effort to explain what caused 'The World' to effect reality adversely and how the problem was resolved. Instead, more questions are thrown up. Questions that aren't answered. Bee Train never get it, do they? For once in your existence, resolve a plot properly! Is it too much to ask...seriously? Why couldn't you have made some more episodes and properly fleshed out the scenario? For once you had a good thing going but as always, you blow it. Considering the track record of fail Bee Train has racked up, why do they still get business? *sigh*
Liminality - the best representation in the anime format of the .hack saga to date. Unfortunately, mismanagement and not enough air-time prevent this from properly evolving into something memorable.

| I watched this awhile ago, and started watching it again recently, and just realized something amazing. I have never seen an anime made by such different studios. IT combines Gainax and Ghibli. That is the most unholy alliance in anime I have heard of. To tell you whether or not you will like this. Here is the balance of the hack series.
.hack//DUSK 90% action, 10% story
.hack//SIGN 30% action, 70% story
.hack//LIMINALITY 10% action, 90% story
So if you like the hack series for its story, watch it, if you enjoyed the fighting and are a narutard, stay away. If you have never seen any hack series nor played any of the games, stay away until you either play the games or at least watch SIGN (dusk/Twilight is irrelevant).
The story is great in this, the opening and ending themes are the best I have ever seen, hte animation is very well done, and the music is awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed this anime, and even though it is only 4 eps (with some longer than others), it was a great journey/mystery that definitely has rewatch value.

| Not perfect but very nice.
Sheds some well needed light over questions left open in .hack//SIGN.
The paceing is nice, takeing its own time. And the setup with every part consentrateing on different characters is well used and the stories would have been quite enjoyable even without the overall main plot.
The ending is a bit rushed, but hey thats normal in the anime world, it seems like the studios run out of either time or money to tell the full story. So I'm getting used to a few plotholes and "shoulde'nt there have been a scene inbetween that?".
Anyways, go see .hack, and if you like it see Liminality, it's worth your time.

| So much stuff to say about this, may as well take it in order.
Animation - Not the most high-tech stuff I've seen, but personally I liked the style and thought it fit the story pretty well.
Sound - Everything related to .hack that I have seen has excellent sound, and that includes Liminality. It's one of my favorite soundtracks, in fact.
Story - Started out really good, but I got amazingly confused towards the end. I'm still not exactly sure what happened in the end.
Character - You didn't really see much of any characters besides Mai and Tokuoka, so there wasn't much chance to get to know anyone besides them.
Value - Good, cause I bought the games and Liminality was a free bonus, so I didn't really pay a thing for it.
Enjoyment - Good to watch if you have a half hour spare time and need something to do.

| Great Anime, another good implement to hack`s world.
The animation is great, not perfect, but still very good.
It also uses sound very well, from complete silence to disturbing repetitive noises, it adds a lot to the scenes.
The story is amzing, while the other .hack series were set inside The World, this one happens in the "real" world which shows a more realistic perspective of the happenings in the game and .hack//sign.
Characters are well made, different personalities though they just don`t appeal to me.
A must see for .hack fans or not
