Card Captor Sakura is my favorite series. That is not to say that it achieves a level of perfection so far above all animes as to stand out in my mind as the best of all time. RahXephon was a close second, achieving an even stronger plot in some ways and exploiting the little explored culture of the Nahuatl in such a way that it was applicably to the experiences of today's youths. Twelve Kingdoms was also a strong contender as well as Macross Plus and several others. Many animes achieve the same level of perfection, but none of the others achieve and maintain it for 70 episodes and two movies.

Still, this is a Shojou anime and if you're bothered by the idea of watching a little girle run around in pastel colored frilly costumes subduing magical spirits for 70 eps, then I won't force you. Still if none of that bothers you, then jump right on in. I started watching "Cardcaptors", the hacked-up English version on TV when I was in fifth grade. It wasn't till about two years later I got my hands on the Japanese version, and I've been stuck on this ever since.

In criticism of it, I will say, there are a few eps, about five, that really aren't that great, and Sakura herself is a pretty stock character, though her development and use in the plot is quite unique. Shoran and Tomoyo were my favorite characters. Also, while the intro songs are all just fine and there are one or two good themes in the series, the music altogether, while always appropriate, is usually unremarkable.

That is all that is wrong with this series. The plot is intricate and there are twists both subtle and great. It can take years of re-watching the series to totally pick up on all the subtleties which tip you off t the well made back-story. And the accuracy with which the creators imitated real, traditional forms of magic to portray Toaist Li magic and the Clow cards is unheard of. I mean, if anyone thought Harry Potter had anything to do with real magic, I hate to tell you, CCS comes a hell of a lot closer than anything HP ever mentions. In short, these people did their research.

The animation is classic CLAMP. It's hard to believe this was made before the turn of the millennium. It's really top-notch for a 70 episode series.

The characters are almost all of them unique or, at least used in unique ways. All of them have depth and secrets. The romantic sideplots are very strong and tie in perfectly with the story. All of them are resolved satisfactorily. The action and drama is gripping and well animated and coordinated. I once heard it remarked that the magical aesthetic is similar to FFVIII's with its wings and swirling wisps.

Altogether, CCS is a wonderful and unique magical girl story on par with the highest levels of achievement in anime and the longest series of its quality. And, as good old Stalin said, "Quantity has a quality all its own." The greatest pain for me in experiencing a great anime, usually is watching it end and wishing it wouldn't. Here, by the time you finish the last episode of the series, you'll be nearly satisfied and ready to see the 2nd movie bring it all to a sweet close. Still, I suppose some people can never get enough as Sakura and Shoran are the main characters of the Tsubasa Chronicle series.

Anyway, buy it. Watch it. Adore it. Love it. Stroke the box slowly as you watch each new ep. It is a magnificent series and one I'll always have the pleasure of remembering.

Card Captor Sakura... I thing there is no need for me to make a big fuss over this series. But well... to be precisely - a short description about the story:

It starts with Sakura (the main heroine - of course) finding a book filled with cards. She is able to grab it because of her father's work - he is an archaeologist. She antecedently drops the book and the cards spread across the Tomodea City - in witch she lives. A moment later a little flying plush toy appears. Naming himself as Kerberos the Selector. This is the beginning for the card hunt. Sakura is named, the title 'Card Capor', needs to find and use the magic in the cards to find them all, or something terrible will happen.

To make things worse she is an elementary student, and a half-orphan, she has one older brother and a lot of good friends showing after episodes pass You.

To begin the review You have to know that this anime is an adaptation of a manga - "Cardcaptor Sakura" published by Kodansha, and created by CLAMP. This manga is rated 9.1/10.0 (49 reviews), so quite high. Not to mention that the studio "Kodansha" - animated such title as;
"GetBackers" (8.6/10.0 (119 reviews) (top 199: # 46)) and is a gigantic publisher for CLAMP mangas. In the and for all who don't know CLAMP (Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi, Satsuki Igarashi) created stories; mostly animated: "Chobits", "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle", "X" and "×××HOLiC", "Magic Knight Rayearth", "Tokyo Babylon" and "Wish". With such a background it is no surprise that Card Captor Sakura is a masterpiece.

Animation is very, very good. Be aware that this anime aired in 1998 ~ 2000, so the lines are a little old, but for that time it is really good. Colours are deep and are not overmoved. The work of camera and the lights plus the shadows are well plased on characters. Not to mention the rotation of cards and effects. Only thing that bothered me are the backgrounds in frames of less value to the story.
You will find people that don't like CLAMP drawing, the way the heroes are a little proportionality incorrect (too long legs and necks), but because main heroes are children You will not see this as a threat in Card Captor Sakura. And I personally like CLAMP's drawing of heroes.

Sound is another part making this anime a walking perfection. OPEN and END songs are good, the music is well done, and it is clear to listen. Music played in the action frames and the one making the climate, the ambience are good.

Not many are aware that Seiyuu (Voice dubbing) is crucial. And in this series it is another well done part. One giving voice to Sakura is Tange Sakura (wonder is the name just a coincidence). She makes for a cheerful and emotional elementary girl a perfect choice. One of the best Seiyuu I ever heard. Not to mention: Shaoran Li's voice of Kumai Motoko and other like Tanaka Hideyuki (over 20 good voice's), Hisakawa Aya (another talent), and a lot more.

If I was about to write opinion concentrated on story. This is one of the main things important to all anime series. Well unless You watch a comedy builder on gags or a series based on specific action.
It is not as simple as is seems. It's the truth that the main thing is the 'capture all the cards' thing, but there is no parallelism to such crap like "Pokemon" or other week shows of that kind. The cards are individuals, are more or less complicated beings, aware of their status, so fighting with them makes Sakura and her friends work harder and harder to collect them as well as constrains them to watch for themselves. As time moves more new heroes appear: Li Shaoran, Li Meiling, Kaho Mizuki, Yukito Tsukishiro and more. So the fable of Sakura evolves. Not to mentione that in all 70 episodes some plots end and new one are born. The spine of the story is the feeling and sensation between heroes.

The story is full of nice moves of action and in the combo with character evolution there is no thing as boringness in this series.

Moving forward to characters. I would like to start with Sakura herself. She is a very complex hero. As I said she lost her mother and lives with one brother and their father. She is a very energetic girl with lots of obligations but still a free soul and a cheerful young lady. Talented as well. With that attitude it is easy to like her, I thing You are not able not to like her. Plus she is an optimist not often dominated by sadness.
Another hero is Shaoran. At the beginning a very strict boy. With a goal to create a collection of all cards. It is obvious that it makes him Sakuras rival, but they end as friends helping each other. Shaoran evolves to a very positive hero, with a nice role at the end of the series. One thing I love about him is that he is a really shy and mousy hero. This makes him a funny character as well. From time to time the authors put him in very critical states concerning his feelings.
Other heroes are a great work from designers: Tomoyo with her camera and love to make new unifirms for Sakura, Keroberos and Yue, Meiling with her obsession over Shaoran. All well developed and all evolving from time to time.

Before I end with the value and a word about how I enjoyed this series I mus say, that I have a little reservation to other reviews of this series. I overlooked them and I'm suprised that some people find this a bad series or an at least average one. Like for example - some were bored after 10 or 15 episodes - I thing you can't review a series that You haven't seen from the beginning to the end - specialy if it is a CLAMP work. Or that this is a series for children. I agree. It is so what? I'm over 20 and I review a series always as I see it and as well, at the same time, as a one of the dedicated audience (this happens for me automatic).

It is true that Card Captor Sakura is a magic girl, school live, action anime about collection deadly cards created by a powerful mage. But it is a great tale about feelings people have one for another, about friendship, love and is overruled with nice humor. All of that in a form of a light tale dressed in children heroes. This series is worth watching, it's value is big. Specially if You are feeling down or in a 'dog house'.

If you ask me about enjoyment? I will say this series is a nice and very pleasant show suitable for children and for anyone. Really... Sakura is an anime lovable.

In the end it is a 'must watch' show for all fans of CLAMP specially if You want to watch such their titles as: "Tsubasa Chronicle" because in this anime the main heroes are Shaoran and Sakura as well, a little older but still.

Worth watching.

Card Captor Sakura is clearly not intended to be watched by 19 year old males, thus I didn't like it very much. Charming in small doses, this quickly becomes a prolonged drag.

Para mi la mejor serie de Magical Girls, incluso superior a la mitica Sailor Moon.
La serie esta basada en los Manga de las Clamp y esta dividida en tres temporadas muy marcadas y en un total de 70 episodios y 2 películas.

..................................................................

This is probably the only anime show I have ever regretted watching from the beginning to the end. Somewhere around episode 14 I was already facing dilemma of either watching more of the show or stopping. Yet since up until now for the past 3 years I haven't dropped even a single show, I've decided to watch Sakura to the very end. "Since it can't get any worse, it can only get better" I thought. In a way I was right and in a way I was wrong. Sakura never became worse than her first 14 episodes, but it didn't become better either. What totaly destroyed the show in my eyes, was that it followed an episodic Monster per Week formula to such extent, that all 70 episodes start to look nearly exactly the same. Even the same joke gets repeated like 30 times from episode to episode. I wont even get into the quality of action scenes, since you know.. well.. how usually "action" scenes look in shoujo. The only thing that could've saved this show from becoming a torture, that it is, would've been good and interesting characters. Unfortunately, while the characters are not definitely bad, they are not interesting, at least for audience who is over 10 years old.

Unless you want to torture yourself with 70 episodes of pointless episodic bunny and other cute stuff hunting do not watch this show. It's not bad enough to be funny, it's just bad enough to be boring...

This was my very first anime! I loved it so much at the time. Card Captor Sakura is billions and billions times better than the horribly censored English version Card Captors (us BC'ers get virtually no anime here... We have Teletoon, and that isn't even anime really). Card Captor Sakura is one of the few school-life animes that I can really tolerate (mostly because the show doesn't completely revolve around school). The show is really heartfelt and the characters are so wonderful, that you can't help but fall in love with them.

I used to come home from school, turn on the TV to Teletoon, and wait for the next new/rerun episode of CCS everyday. For the next 40 or so weeks, I'd be doing that, catching a new episode every week and wondering what card they are going to capture next.

Perhaps change wasn't a good idea when you're young and your attention span isn't that great, because I dropped it after it got into the third season.

But now I'm back, back to experience the reminiscence that was Card Captor Sakura!

While the pinnacle of the magical girls genre is the unmovable Sailor Moon series, CCS brings back the charms that made magical girls enjoyable, in addition to what the late 90's brought. Adorable characters, action-packed captures, and overall fun-filled situations are stuffed into each episode. They won't make you cry, but it will leave a smile on your face after each sitting.

Sakura, our heroine, is one of the most adorable and likeable characters in anime history. Outgoing, clueless, and courageous, her cuteness brings relief over everything, and her innocence keeps action scenes tense, even if you've watched it X times over. Tomoyo, her best friend, has a strange fetish with Sakura (...and spawned many doujinshi's...), but her loyalty is undeniable as she follows Sakura everywhere and helps out with the capturing of the cards. Shaolong (and it's many variations) is NOT the main character. Instead, he becomes likeable as time passes, and sometimes he can become a kind of cool badass when he helps out Sakura, or takes a card for himself. The intertwining with all the characters makes it fun to watch all 70 episodes, even as they change/reveal their identities towards the end.

After 40-something episodes of the 'monster of the week' theme (which are all very enjoyable even though it's formulatic), Sakura gets an upgrade! This time, with a longer attention span, I got to see the final 2X episodes that ends a majestic series along with a lot of nostalgia. So basically, stick with it after the 'test' and you won't feel that this anime left you feeling empty inside.

On the topic of dubs: thank gawd I live in Canada. Nowadays, anime gets dubbed as close to the original as possible, in which half the cases are good and the other cases not so good. Here, they changed some names to 'Americanize' it. It's not a bad thing, especially if you haven't watched the original Japanese version, because everything still makes sense and at least the kids won't feel distant. Now that I've heard how the US screwed this anime, I pity them for not having seen it in it's original run. View this now in proper order!

On the topic of Chinese -> Japanese names: NO. That's pretty much the only irritating thing about the series, because everything else is excellent.

I don't watch a lot of magical girls, but I consider this a classic next to Sailor Moon. CLAMP's best work easily, because the rest of their stuff is VERY mediocre.

Though this is kind of childish, it was fun watching even again and again.

The animation is top notch and consistent thoughout the series. Sakura and the others look exactly the same in each episode. The overall pallete is quite pastel colored and the characters are well drawn, the kids have big eyes and round faces while the adults have smaller eyes and sharp chin. And theres a variety of cute dresses that Sakura wears whenever she's out capturing cards.

The opening, ending and other songs are very well fitted to the cuteness of the characters. Of course the japanese dubbing is very good especially the voice of Kero chan. I also watched this dubbed in english and its ok too, Animax did a nice job. The background music is wonderful, one of my favorites, what I like most is nukumori no kioku, theme of Sakura's mother.

Sakura is a 10 yr old elemetary school kid who was chosen to gather the magical cards, but in fact, its her fault that the cards escaped so she's the one who must capture them with the help of Kerberos. Then, Shaoran entered after a few episodes, he's a decendant of Clow Reed, the one who made the cards and he's trying to gather them too so sakura has now a rival. I like the puppy love story of Sakura and Shaoran but what I hate is that Sakura only realized her true feelings a few episodes before the end so its kind of frustrating, she shouldve realized it much earlier.

The episodes doesnt have coherence to others, everything is finished in just 20 minutes though mostly she uses the cards she captures before in order to capture another. The first half of this is very good but the second half is not much, I feel as if the second season is a whole bunch of fillers, done just to prolong the series. The ending comes quite sudden and is through in just two episodes, i think its too short. another problem is that the cast is so few and the scenes repeats over and over, mostly just in Sakura's house, then at school, then in the park and very seldom in other places.

The cast is lovable, my ultimate favorite here is Kero chan, though sometimes he's a blockhead and thinks nothing but to eat sweets, he's the one which adds charm the most. Sakura is kind of wimp sometimes but she's trying her best. Another favorite of mine is Shaoran coz he's strong willed and doesnt give up easily. Tomoyo is funny, always recording Sakura's "heroic" moments in her cam. Meiling is stubborn and Yue is silent and he cares alot for Sakura though he seems not to.

I think this is the best anime from Clamp, actually I dont like their other works that much. This is highly recommended to all.

Don't be fooled by the horrible dub adaption by Nelvena.

Card Captor Sakura seriously is not the same "thing" as cardcaptors. juts google it!

It appeals to people who are into magical girl animes, I DO NOT CONSIDER IT A CLASSIC, but it's a good anime. I will say it IS childish so...

I've definitely seen more enteretaining magical girls animes such as akazukin cha cha, which I recommend if you liked card captor sakura or if you didn't like CCS.

CardCaptor Sakura is a CLAMP... and it is a POPULAR CLASSIC... I mean, surely almost everyone who watches anime knows about Card Captor Sakura, who doesn't know about it? It's The CLASSIC ANIME,,, like Disney being the Classic Entertainment of English Animations...

Anywayz, Because this anime was made quite long ago, I'd hate to say it, but its animation is not very impressing and can easily be beaten by modern animes, but still, for an anime from that time, it definitely is quality...

Sound? Definitely, THE THEME SONGS ARE EXCELLENT!!! "Catch you Catch Me", the first Opening theme, Very Light Hearted & Catchy, & the Second Opening theme, "Open The Door" starts getting serious and repeats "It's All Right"... Which matches the season where Sakura learns her most powerful spell, "Zettai Daijoubu Daiyo..." & the 3rd Opening theme by Maaya Sakamoto, Definitely one of the Hits that will stay in my Playlist forever...

The Sounds definitely Deserve a 10 and if possible, maybe even a 20....

Okay... Story, Definitely GooD... With the ULTRA CooL Clow Cards & Its CooL Powers... Definitely CardCaptor Sakura is a Fantastic Magical Romance Comedy Story... It has quite a few funny parts with Funny, Happy-Go-Lucky, Glutton Kero, & fun Tomoyo obssessing on Sakura...

Character....I like Tomoyo, Some ppl might think she's annoying fantasising over Sakura all the time and seemingly not having any flaws, compared to Meilin, But anywayz, I like Tomoyo, cause she is so artistic and Talented, & I like the Fashion Designs of Sakura's Battle Costumes, Other Characters are made well, however, could be made better, but good enough,,, I like Sakura too who's so happy, cheerful and funny when she's angry at Kero and her big brother... =)

Value & Enjoyment... Personally, I LOVE CARDCAPTOR SAKURA!!! I think it's my TOP anime of ALL TIMES!!! Perhaps a modern anime will beat it one day, but it's a good anime anywayz...

I Love the Fashion Designs, I Love the Story, The Theme Songs, The Jokes, The Characters, The Magic & CooL Cards, I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!!

CLAMP sure did do its best in making this wonderful magical girl anime... I Loved IT & ENJOYED IT A WHOLE LOT!!!

I Just find it strange how Such a Good Classic has so little reviews... Thought it would have about 200 Over reviews... anyway, hopefully, more people like me will Enjoy CardCaptor Sakura As Much As I DID!!!

=) A Review from a BIG CardCaptor Sakura Fan... =)

One of the most recongnized work of Clamp. This anime gem had perhaps defined what a successful magical girl show was and should be in the future. The characters were a delight to watch. The story, although long, after looking at it as a whole, was a heartwarming tale of friendship, perservance and adventure.

The animation was good for its time. Very fluid action during action scenes, although nothing over the top. The designs were very appealing to the eyes, the character designs for Sakura and her customs were well done. Very creative.

The story does drag a bit, since it composes mainly of collecting cards. In fact, there are only a few episodes that are important in the main story arc. The card capturing adventures, although not completely heart-racing or epic, were often comical and intriguging to watch.

Overall, I recommend this show to anyone who enjoys fantasy and wouldn't mind the childish setup of the show. Overall, a good watch.

Card Captor Sakura was the second shoujo anime I watched after Sailormoon, and it was quite fun to have a relaxing hour with it every weekend!

Sound:
CCS had some amazing songs, especially the opening theme that was attention-grabbing and freshly innovative. The usage of music was quite consistent throughout the anime and was generally quite appropriate [i.e. the genre of the music usually fit the situation].

Story:
This anime started off well and the setting was developed through magical realism and rather original ideas. Despite this, most episodes of CCS can be seen as fillers, where Sakura embarks on a one-day quest to capture/seal a specific card. This makes CCS repetitive and the freshness begins to lose its impact on the viewer, but the audience who survive will be saved by the dramatic and fulfilling ending, preceded by a twist in the storyline.
The humor in CCS was very important as it brought forth this anime's lightheartedness and fun.

Characters:
There was a lovable set of characters, with the male lead being the least lovable because of his strange attitude. Sakura was a very confident girl and it was amusing to watch her wear different extravagant costumes (designed by her friend) each time she goes on a mission. Sometimes the costumes look so exaggerated for just one day that it adds to the humor, but most of the time it is just visually fantasy-like.

Value:
CCS is an anime worth collecting mainly because it is liked by so many people and is popular. It is lighthearted and humorous, while being a little romantic and repetitive. ^^

Oh, how much I wanted to see this series for so long! However, I was only to able see Nelvana's heavily edited version of it four years ago. But now that I'm older, I was finally able to get the opportunity to see the series in its original, uncut glory.

Card Captor Sakura is a series that many say break the cliches of conventional mahou shoujo anime which makes it so endearing. Granted that my only other experience with mahou shoujo was through Sailor Moon, I would have to agree with those critics. While Card Captor Sakura also has that 'villian of the day' feel like Sailor Moon, there are many more loveable elements to this series than you could get to Sailor Moon, the anime which defined mahou shoujo.

First off are the characters. If the plot elements are gonna be a little repititious, then the characters must make up for this. Card Captor Sakura has a wide variety of characters to make up for this from the main cast to the minor characters. You will greatly admire many of the cast members of the show from Sakura's duties as a Card Captor to Tomoyo's interest in camcording moments of Sakura's life and capturing Clow Cards to even Yamazaki's lies.

This show is quite infamous for the variety of character relationships that the show has which consist of shounen-ai, shoujo-ai, incest, and lolita. Fortunately, these relationships are handled decently without them being too blatant and ruining the overall mood of the show. These relationships do reflect the themes of CCS which is love and loss. The subject can seem a bit delicate in some areas of the show like how the Kinomoto family manages with the loss of Nadesico, Sakura and Touya's mother, in their every day life. The show manages to approach these themes very well maintaining the show's light mood without making it into an angst trap.

Sakura's duties as a Card Captor are also a delight to see. Whenever she faces a card, she often has to think through ways of defeating that card using whatever available elements there are in the environment she faces the card in. For example when facing the Watery card, the cards Sakura had in her possession at the time wouldn't be of any help and she had to figure out how to use whatever was at the aquarium to her advantage against the card. With help from a comment by Yukito, Sakura is able to figure out how to defeat the Watery card. Along with this, Tomoyo even makes self-reference to the mahou shoujo anime cliches providing costumes to Sakura for many of her adventures and even recording them.

As for other elements, the animation is quite solid and does well to serve the needs for actions going on in the show. The music is great for the mood of CCS with music providing that cheerful and energetic feeling for the show's intros and the show's exciting moments.

I'm so happy that I finally seen CCS that I might have forgotten some of the other things that make the show enjoyable. Nontheless, the show is definitely a must-have and can appeal to a much broader audience than just young girls. It's a very fun show with a lot of charm, elements which break away from many of the dark, angsty anime plots that are present nowadays.

Card Captor Sakura, like most magic-girl anime at first I was turned off by it, saw part of the first episode and instantly stopped. After convicing from several people I gave it another shot... Boy was I an idiot the first time around O_O

CCS is a very loving anime, it's a classic pure and simple, so much so that I'm literally DYING to see movie 2, so yeah, the show rocks it starts out a little weird at first but after you see a few episodes it really starts to get m ore intresting. The only bad part is I personally thought he first season was way to long compaired to season 2 and 3, none the less the anime rocks and is just fun to watch.

Animation is good for it's time, a several year old anime with a style around 2000's is quite good, all the magic effects are nice and consiternig Sakura's outfit changes nearly every episode it's hard to have any complaints, just with Shaoran would have gotten a second outfit in the third season or something...

I loved the music, it all fits well, some of the BGM reminds me of the old classic shows and music from video games. The open/endings are all really well done and the third opening song has become a personal favorite.

The storyline centers around Sakura who's trying to collect the Clow Cards, of course she has many, many, many, adventures between having her house taken over by a giant tree, nearly getting covered in an avalanche, ect. Of course the story has pacing problems but it's so good that you will only just wish it would move faster, it's more frusterating rather then annoying, it makes you keep watching. I'd hate to watch this week by week O_O

The characters are all really well done, Sakura's character is so cute it's funny, her relationship with her friends Tomoyo (who's the comic relief along with Kero-chan), Shaoran (Rival, he is so funny when he blushes at Yukito), her Brother and her crush Yukito. All the characters are well developed and I have no complaints... well besides Meilin not having enough screen time, she and Shaoran are just to funny.

I greatly enjoyed this anime and if you like anime you had better see it and see it soon, I'm the most septic when it comes to not liking things and I LOVED THIS ANIME TO DEATH.

SAKURA FOREVER!!!

I remember when I used to watch this series when it first came to the U.S., I was hooked! However, I lost interest, but someone told me to watch the series in the original subs which I did, and I was not disappointed.

To begin with, Sakura an Elementary school student, takes a huge responsibility in capturing all of the Clow Cards in which she let them loose out of mere curiousity. She is astounded by Keroberos, but to her amusement, he is nothing more but a stuffed toy animal and not the Keroberos we see later on in the series. She later meets a Foreign Exchange student and his cousin, on this almost never-ending quest on capturing all of the cards.

First, I must say that the animation was quite well for the late 90's. I've always liked CLAMP's style. I especially liked all of the each indiviudal Clow Cards and how they represent their own character in the series. In addition, nearly all of Sakura's costumes were adorable, this series has that cute factor!

The story I thought, was very thougtful, cute in relating to Sakura's family and past, making the series having that heart-warming quality to it. Also, we see romance among quite a few characters. My only disappointment was how the series seemed to drag on, making it tedious to watch at times, but all in all, I was able to deal with it.

I will have to buy the CCS soundtrack(s) because I remember the catchy jpop songs, and the sweet songs from Tomoyo. Really nice!

The characters are all wonderful. From the adorable Sakura, to the dedicated and talented Tomoyo, to the thoughtful and hard to read Li, to fist-fighting Mei-Ling, etc... I can go all day about these characters, but bottom line, I love them!

I have this series already, so it's a great anime to have in any anime collection. As old as I am, I am still able to enjoy these cute type anime series, but at least there is an actual story behind it. I enjoyed this series very much, and I recommend it to anyone, well to those who like particularily like cute/school/romance/comedy/and yes even a bit of drama. Sorry mecha fans. Well, no, in of the episodes Sakura is as huge as a mech, does that count? Heh...

One of the better magical girl anime series I know. I also saw it in English on television when I was young, probably when Pokemon was emerging as a force to young viewers. Anyway, it is one of the first anime series I have come across and of course it is engraved in my memory despite its contents. I give CCS credit for getting me hooked onto anime and CCS itself is truly an enjoyable series.

I first saw it in English on teletoon and kids wb sometime ago, and I liked it. It was one of the first shows to get me hooked on japanese animation. When I watched it in japanese though, I just fell in love with it. I love shoujo anime and card captor sakura's storyline was really neat with all the different cards and things they can do. The characters were all done really well. I love the relationship between Sakura and Tomoyo. Tomoyo makes me laugh when she goes overboard with seeing sakura in some of her outfits. I really liked Kero too! His japanese voice actor did an excellent job! She also does Haruko from Air TV and Kurosawa Minamo from azumanga daioh.

The animation was well done for an 8 year old show. I really like the facial expression portrayed in this series. The starry eyes, the chibi cuteness, the sweatdrop sigh & twitch expressions and anger veined faces were just too cute! For all you people who love magic, young love, and a whole lot of cuteness, I recommend card captor sakura to you. I guarantee you will like it!

If i were to name the most well known Mahou Shojo anime of all time, it would probably be CardCaptor Sakura. This anime shares its own various problems that really drag this anime down, however its positives are enough to carry this anime to the very well made climactic finish and eventually to the movie.

this anime first sets its foundation with very consistent animation and very excellent seiyuu work. Animation is crisp, colorful and overflowing with cuteness. This anime have one of the cutest design along with digicharat and it really shows here. Seiyuu work als compliments the characters personality surprisingly well.

The best thing in this anime i felt were the characters and their relationship. I could not find a single character that i could really hate in this anime. everyone is very likable an thus kept me coming back for more. I also found many of character relationships and thematic elements charming. This anime explores issues such as family values, importance of friendship and love, regret from the past, and the hopefulness of the future. This anime handles it effortlessly and i liked it.

The bad elements however are also plentyful. This anime is dreadfully formulaic and thus predictable. Many times Sakura and crew just go out catching cards without any story progressing. Though catching cards are important, it's nothing but filler. and also i was annoyed to the bones by "i have something to tell you... and something pops out to disturb it" element of this anime. These element severly cripple the pacing of this anime.

Also this anime specifically targets younger viewers. If you are older and want some real action and blood you are not gonna get it here...

This anime could've been one of the best shojo anime, but due to its pacing problems and its repetitiveness it never really rises to that level of greatness. But this anime is still charming and entertaining to watch. This anime is definetely superior to other downright horrible mahou shojo anime like Sailor Moon, in fact, i consider this anime to be one of the best of its genre. watch it if you are in the mood to see something cute, charming, endearing, and fun.

I wasn't too impressed with this anime... I really expected more from it, especially because it is really popular. Everytime I watched Card Captor Sakura I just grew to not liking it even more. This is deffinately not one of my favorites... Although, the artwork was very good, the characters were well drawn and were well acted out... The actors and actresses really put alot of emotion in making this anime worth watching. I would recommend Sakura to people who are new to watching anime.

I find Card Captor Sakura to be a mildly entertaining show, but it's clearly extremely formulaic(I'm told the manga is significantly less so, since they made up more cards as filler for the anime), and well, it's kiddy shoujo. In all honesty, I enjoy it in much the same way I enjoy Dragonball Z. That's right, I enjoy DBZ, and I enjoy Card Captor Sakura. They're both pretty lame, but if you can get yourself in the proper mindset, rather addictive. This is not necessarily a bad thing, since as it is shoujo, so despite it's childishness, it is almost necessarily deeper than any shounen counterpart, especially emotionally. I especially enjoy the sibling rivalry byplay between Sakura and her older brother.

It also features very cute and inventive
outfits which reflect it's excellent animation and budget(especially for shoujo), and despite my maleness and thus complete obliviousness to minor styling changes, I found myself wondering what they'd manage to dress Sakura up as in this particular episode.

I also enjoyed the much of the music, which lives on in my computer to this day in limited quantities, because it's just a bit too sugary for me, much like the series in general. However, I stopped watching around halfway through, as it is a very long series and I probably got really busy and couldn't convince myself to pick it up again, and I have no doubt that the deepest emotional impacts are later in the series, but ah well.

In the end though, the series is for the most part mindless fluff which maintains its audience primarily the same way Pokemon does(which I also like, but have watched only a fraction of for much the same reason). Or Voltron. The vast majority of the show is largely too meaningless for me to enjoy as it's not really my favored genre. I mean, it's just so much shoujo fluff, and I find it amazing it's idolized so much, whereas most animes that made it to the US to be popular are demonized, like DBZ or Pokemon. It is, as an aside, more than a little disturbing to see the immense amounts of CCS hentai that circulates.

Hmmm, I just read Pantha's review after I finished my own, and it seems very odd to not think of Hisakawa Aya as a cutesy role player, because I was introduced to her as Skuld in Ah! Megami-Sama. Given her other roles, I suppose she mostly does play pretty serious characters, but I'm forever colored by the image of Skuld bopping bugs and eating ice cream.
